What is interesting about this film is that it has cultivated a large following among Internet bloggers. The movie stars Samuel L. Jackson as a FBI agent who is escorting a high profile mobster on a plane. Obviously, as the title suggest, a bunch of snakes are let loose on the plane and a bunch of people die. Woo, wow!

Well anyway, I am not posting this article to talk about the movie, I mean, It sounds pretty lame anyway. Like I said, what is interesting about this film is that it has cultivated many bloggers to create fan sites and even their own Snakes on a Plane trailers and songs before the movie has been released. The influence has been so great that the director of the movie has made changes in the movie to satisfy Internet fans.

And as usual, I have media for your enjoyment. Below you will find links to Snakes on a Plane spoof movie trailer and song made by Brian Finkelstein along with the original NPR segment.

Links to media:
Original NPR segment on Snakes on a Plane: mp3
Movie trailer spoof (audio has swear words and gunfire): mp3
Movie song spoof: mp3

lala.com

You can now sign up for lala.com for free.
Just go to http://www.lala.com/invite/usatoday

I am already a member and I have two Gun N' Roses CDs coming in soon! :D

This is how it works:

You share CDs that you are willing to trade with others. The more you trade the faster you will get the albums you want.
You don't have to send a CD that you are sharing if you don't want to. When you receive a CD it is yours and you don't have to send it to anyone else.

There is a charge obviously, you pay $1.00 + shipping which is $0.49. When you receive an album, you pay $1.49! That's a lot cheaper then itunes or buying cds in the store and faster then downloading not to mention that you are getting a REAL cd. Now, if someone sends you a fake cd or a cd that doesn't work, lala.com will not charge you $1.49. There is no monthly charge and you are not obligated to trade cds.

The shipping works like netflicks. lala.com mails you a "mailing kit" which is a kit with a bunch of prepaid envelops. When you ship a cd all you have to do is drop the cd into the pre paid envelop and throw the envelop into the mail (you are not paying for the shipping, the person receiving the cd is paying for the shipping).

If you want to give it a try you can sign up for free here:
http://www.lala.com/invite/usatoday

If the above link does not work, then try the following link:
www.lala.com/invite/futuretense

E.T. the Biblical Extra-Terrestrial

Joel Montes de Oca

12/1/05

E.T. the Biblical Extra-Terrestrial

It is no wonder that Steven Spielberg's E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial has captivated an audience from around the world. This film, about an extra-terrestrial being left behind on earth by his compares and befriending a small boy, has grasped the hearts of many. The movie starts with a great chase evolving E.T, E.T's spaceship buddies. and a group of scientists. The outcome of the chase ended with E.T. accidentally being left behind on earth to venture on his own. E.T. quickly befriends a young boy named Elliot who protects E.T. from the evil scientists. The Movie ends with E.T. phoning the spaceship which later returns with the purpose of rescuing E.T. I strongly believe that the reason why the movie E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial has became an instant hit is due to the fact that E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial has strong ties with the universal hero theme, especially with Jesus and Jesus' life.

The film opens with a dark, fogy, and mysterious outdoor scene. E.T. and his friends have just arrived to earth from the heavens by means of a spaceship. Suddenly, there is a great commotion! A group of scientists were expecting the arrival of E.T. and were on the process of locating this creature. E.T. friends panic and board the spaceship. The spaceship lifts off and disappears into the dark sky, leaving poor E.T. behind. When we examine this scene for its symbolism and how it relates to the universal hero, we can clearly see that it starts on the path of Jesus' life story. For example, E.T. descends from the heavens just as Jesus did. When E.T. arrived to Earth, scientists were on the search for him with the aim of capturing him. In Jesus' case, the same happened. When Jesus arrived and was born on Earth, there was a king who was looking for the child. He was so desperate to find the child that he later ordered for all new born males to be put to death. because Jesus was in such danger, an angle descended and warned Mary and Joseph to flee with Jesus. Although no one told E.T. to flee the forest, he did so and into Elliot's shed he hid. Keep in mind that E.T. was first discovered within a shed which closely resembles Jesus' birth place. Also, great enphesis is given to Elliot's mother, the only lead adult women in the film, which would lead you to think that she resembles Mary, Jesus earthly mother. The film goes on to show the three children, Elliot and his two siblings, befriending E.T. and swearing to always protect E.T. Jesus also acquired twelve disciples who at one point tried to protect Jesus from certain death after Jesus was betrayed. Keep in mind that E.T.'s three “disciples” is dividable by Jesus' twelve disciples. More over, now we start seeing how Elliot's family starts becoming closer with each other because of the alien, E.T.

By the middle of the film, we begin to see how E.T. is not your average extra-terrestrial. E.T. shows us that he is capable of healing physical injuries just as Jesus did in biblical times. Also, E.T. exhibits an uncanny ability to feel what Eliot feels and also to cause Eliot to feel what he feels which shows that E.T. can touch you both physically and spiritually. E.T.'s health starts failing and he is aware that he needs to go home soon. The symbolism here is strong with that of Jesus' life. Jesus also knew that his earthly life was coming to an end. He later goes out to the mount of olives for a long period of time in order to pray to God, or in a more simplified sense, communicate out of this world. Steven Spielberg was able to capture this symbolism on film by having E.T. go out into the forest and communicate out of this world by means of a home brewed radio. It appears that E.T. was also a licensed radio armature back in his native planet.

The ending of the film, I believe, has the biggest and most obvious clues that proves this story is not so original after all. Lets examine the clues that Melissa Mathison, the writer of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, hashed out. E.T. is captured by the scientists within a house; Jesus was also captured while being near a house. E.T. goes on to die at the hands of the scientists just as Jesus died at the hands of his captures. E.T.'s body is placed within a nitrogen coffin and Jesus' body was placed within a new cave tomb. The coming scene is the extraordinary scene where E.T. actually is resurrected from the dead and calls out to his “disciples”, which are the only people that knows that E.T. is alive. E.T. is awakened screaming, “E.T. go home! E.T. go home!” Jesus' story is similar. Jesus dies, is entombed, and then is resurrected and appears only to his disciples. The film finally concludes with E.T. ascending into the heavens by means of the spaceship while his earthly friends watch him go. Jesus' earthly life ended in a similar way, he rose into the sky on top of a cloud and only his disciples watched him leave.

In conclusion, the film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial was interesting until I realized that I already knew the ending to the film. The obvious signs that E.T. is depicting Jesus' life makes the film loose its edge I think. My final recommendation is if you want a story packed with metaphoric symbolism, don't waste your money at block buster, just read the book of David or the book of Revelations. type='text'>Worms in my chocolate

Recently I bought books and a chocolate at the Miami Dade College Kendall campus. I bought one of those Hershey Symphony bars that they sell at the MDC book store, Follett. So I start walking towards my car and opening the bar with one hand due to the fact that I was also carying my bag full of class books. Well, I am reaching my car when I feel something strange in my mouth. Something is not normal here, I think to my self. I extract a little white bit of something from my mouth. Obviously, I think its a bit of peanut since the bar has nuts in the chocolate. But I start noticing little dots of chocolate all over my chocolate bar. I turn the bar over and behold, the Hershey bar was crawling with worms!

The worms were of all sizes. Some were little infants and others were larger brothers and sisters. They had gotten into the bar and dug little caves into the chocolate thus producing the little dots of chocolate that I first observed.

Long story short, I took the Hershey Symphony bar back to Follett. When I got there, Mary wanted to refund me for the bar which would be a refund of 70 cents or something down those lines. I said no and that I would like to keep the bar instead. She then gave me a 10% discount on my previous buy which amounted to a whopping 18 bucks. All well, It could have been worse.

Here are the photos of the Hershey Symphony bar: Photos

Here is a video of the Hershey Symphony bar and a worm crawling around: Video

Google Steps on MS Toes

Well, it seems that Google may be developing an operating system after all. Overall I think its a ok movie but it was not as good as all the hype that went around.

The beginning of the film was great. It was very mysterious and engaging. Jack Black played a great role through out the film although in certain sense a serious situation seemed a bit comedic since Jack block's face is associated so much with comedy.

I enjoyed the movie until the ship, which Jack was in, reached the shores of Skall Island. The natives were portrayed as if all the inhabitants were possessed by evil spirits as they went around killing the ship's crew.

When I first saw the King Kong, his movement seemed rigid. He didn't flow as smooth as I would think he should have been. Besides this, King Kong had too much of a human personality to seem like a realistic ape.

Besides all that, the film was three hours long. From all the movies I have seen, this has been the longest movie with the least dialog that I have ever seen. The movie's dialog mainly consisted of close-ups of the blond and close ups of King Kong.

I think King Kong would make a good block buster but I wouldn't spand 7 bucks on another movie ticket.

My Call

I just received my amateur radio call sign. This is great if you plan on deploying Postfix within an UNIX based OS but obviously it is a letdown if you were planning on using MS Windows or DOS based PCs.

Postfix Connection Cache

This is a feature that can be deceiving on the importantnce end of the spectrum. Postfix is able to answer to multiple STMP connection (at the same time). Why is this feature important? Lets say you have five clients downloading email for your Postfix server at the same time. If a client, for what ever reason, stops responding to the Postfix server, the Postfix server is able to wait for a response while providing service to other email clients. In other words, if a client stops responding to the Postfix server, the Postfix server will not idle while the non-responding client idle.

Other then that, STMP connection caching does not have a great impact in performance.

Postfix DSN Support

Starting with Postfix 2.3, Delivery Status Notifications, or DSN, support as been added to the server. The server administrator has full control over what types of DSN will be used. There are three types of DSN messages which are: susses, failure, delayed, and none.

Susses: When a message is sent and the receiving email server accepts the message

Failure: When a message is sent and the receiving email server fails to accept the message or the receiving email server does not exist.

Delayed: When a message is sent the the receiving email server delays the delivery of the message.

None: No DSN messages.

For example, I send an email to bob@work.com. Bob's email server is currently down. Postfix will create a DSN message which is sent to my own email box with a message explaing the cause for the failure.

The intresting aspact of the DSN server built into Postfix is that the administrator is not limited only to which type of DSN message will be reported back to the originating user, but also, how much information will be included with the DSN message is up to the administrator. The administrator can choose for example if attachments will be included in the DSN message or if the whole content of the original sent message will be included in the DSN message. This might not seem important but it is if you have a large number of email clients/users constantly sending emails.

For example, lets assume that we configure the DSN system to keep an exact copy of the original email, attachments and all, when generating a failure DSN message. Lets go on to say that we have 1000 email accounts setup. Imagine that 10% of those 1000 email accounts will send an email with a large attachment to an email address that does not exist. That means that 100 DSN messages will be generated with a copy of the attached file. We can clearly see why this would be problem in a small server. Resources can be quickly zapped by DSN messages. Postfix fixes this by allowing the administrator to choose how much information will be included within the DSN messages.

Support for IPv6

A new Internet Protocol version is being developed and Postfix is ready to take advantage of the situation. You can read more about IPv6 at http://www.computerworld.com.au/index.php/id;75779762;fp;2;fpid;4.

Postfix TLS Support

Postfix supports Transport Layer Security, formerly called SSL. TLS provides encryptions for all communications such as, client information encryption and data transfer encryption of messages.

Offical site of Postfix:
http://www.postfix.org/

----
If you would like to make a comment, please do.

Joel with Tux Racer

 Joel with Tux Racer
Originally uploaded by Zoohouse.
For the Linux fans out there, here is something that you will recognize.

This is a Tux Racer arcade game which is a popular game among Linux users.

I found this arcade game in one of the Disney resorts arcade rooms. I don't quite remember the name of the particular resort but I will research it and post it up.

I was surprised to find Tux Racer in the arcade room. In the bathroom, a used condom, hair net, and roses were found laying around the sink counter. The local hams have suggested to go to nemal for my cable and connector needs but nemal is all is like a hour drive from where I live so I emailed the nemal shot to see if they would ship orders. Hopefully they will and it wont cost me a arm and leg.

I also plan on practicing my Morse code while I am on break, hopefully I can take my Morse code test soon and get that out of the way for my General license. I bought the MFJ-862 model from the MFJ site expecting it to be white, just as the the model image on the MFJ website, but they sent me a black meter instead.

Now all I need is a roll of RG-8 coax cable and my ham radio license to get on the armature radio bands.

For those of you that might not know what a SWR meter is, it is a meter used to measure the standing wave ratio within the cable that feeds into the antenna. The SWR meter measures and helps the user minimize RF energy that can reflects back into the transmitter which in turn can damage your transceiver.

Formatting problems when email posts

I just noticed that when I send posts to blogger via my gmail account that the word wrap from gmail causes formatting problems with my blog posts. As the Google lab website explains, you are now able to plan trips using public transportation with Google's Transit. Unfortunately the service is currently only available for the Portland community, but should spread to cover other communities in good time. The benefit of Google's Transit project will widely benefit those who relay on public transportation for their daily commutes. With a click of a button, a user may find exact bus route schedule, total distance/time of required walking, total cost of the trip according to current pubic transit prices, even an approximation of the cost for the same trip if you were to drive a car all in a simple to understand environment. But I believe the greatest benefit of them all is the fact that the end user will now have more options on how he or she would like to arrive at a destination, whether in their car or via public transportation.

If you would like to take a look at this wonderful new project that will soon be part of Google Local, just visit the following link for a preview. http://www.google.com/transit

Day three with AdSense

Day three with AdSense was not as active as past days. It must have created it self.

Yesterday I read some guy's blog that had a bit of philosophy in it. He made a claimed that no one will ever know how the Earth was formed because simply, no one was around to see the Earth being formed. The jest of his argument was that we can not say that we are the product of a creator or that the Earth was created by a higher being because no one was around to whiteness it happened -- and record it I guess.

Well then, if that type of reasoning is used then we should also come to the conclusion that a creator was not involved in the design and construction of a chair since no one here has ever witnessed the first chair being created.

Also, no one here has ever seen the first watch being created so we have no reason why to believe that a watch was the product of an intelligent being.

What do you think?

Was this article created? Well, I would like to report that I am twenty-seven cents richer! Before you lose interest in AdSense understand that I only had three clicks yesterday. I made twenty-seven cents with three clicks, now that is impressive I think. If I were to receive fifty clicks on my ads, which I think isn't such a far fetched thought, I would earn a total of $4.50. Ok, so I am not going to become rich with AdSense but by the looks of things, but one thing is cretin, I will have extra pocket change. Who knows if in a couple of months I'll have $100 credited in my account? Well, lets see how things go, I will continue to monitor my AdSense account and to report on it on a daily bases.

Also, if you would like to test AdSense for your self you may do so. All I ask is that you click the button on the bottom of this page where it says, "This website is monetized by Google AdSense," so that I can be the referee to your new AdSense account and thus receive a earning on the referral.

Thanks

AdSense

Well this is truly weird. I recently signed up with google's AdSense program for blogger. Google will pay you for the amount ad clicks your page turns up. Supposedly it is possible to generate a good amount of revenues from AdSence. Well, so I signed up and installed the needed template. It turns out that now my blogger page is unavailable via www.joelmontes.blogspot.com. I am not sure for how much longer it will stay unreachable but I hope it isn't for too long.

I will report in the future how much money I made with AdSense. Please click the ads and help me out! :)

Jpole Antenna

 Jpole Antenna
Originally uploaded by Zoohouse.
This is my brand spanking new J-Pole antenna for 2 meters. :)

Yea it does look like something King Triton might have.
